Conveyor Counter-Weight Stabilizer

I worked as a project engineer intern for Vulcan Materials during the summer of 2023 in Nashville, TN. Halfway through my long-lasting catwalk project, my supervisor requested I take a break from the project to shift my attention to this more urgent project. Not easily seen in the picture below, the back cross beam had been slightly bent due to a chain attached from the conveyor’s counterweight to the beam. The goal of this chain was to limit the weight’s horizontal sway, in doing so though, it had been causing structural concern. The goal of my project was to design a new structure that would attach to the tower beams, stop the sway, and keep structural integrity. To the left, you can see the simplified version of the design I made for this problem that my supervisor signed off on. The new system is being implemented very soon.
